Bethany Cockburn RAD RTS
Owner/Director
As a young dancer Bethany was passionate about two things. Perfecting technique together with artistry and allowing her creativity to develop. When she thought about her future she knew this was ultimately going to drive her direction in life. Through her dedication and commitment she completed all Royal Academy of Dance examinations gaining high distinctions for each and achieving 100% for the final Advanced 2 examination. Along the way she was awarded numerous awards and scholarships for outstanding syllabus work in RAD and multiple titles and awards in national competitions.
Whilst competing as a young dancer Bethany became the first dancer in the history of the Sydney Eisteddfod to win 5 gold medals in any dance section twice, with most of these dances being her own choreography as well as obtaining the title of Most Promising Dancer. During her final year competing Bethany was selected as a finalist for the Senior Ballet Scholarship affording her the opportunity to dance in the Opera House. Bethany won the performance award to perform in the Australian Conservatoire’s performance of Sleeping Beauty in the principle role of The Lilac Fairy. She was also lucky enough to win 1st place at the Alana Haines Award in New Zealand. This prize included a full scholarship to attend the Houston Ballet Academy Summer Program where Bethany was offered a full time place to continue her ballet training.
After being selected to compete at the prestigious Prix de Lausanne in Switzerland, she gained scholarships to 9 internationally recognised ballet schools. Bethany chose to finish her schooling and ballet training in the Professional Ballet Programme at Canada’s National Ballet School. During her time in Canada she choreographed multiple pieces for the school, including work that was presented in front of international government officials as part of the PANAM Games.
After returning to Australia, Bethany very quickly realised that teaching was going to be her path and obtained her Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies with the Royal Academy of Dance.
After spending a few years teaching and sharing her knowledge of dance across South-East Queensland, 2019 brought the start of her own school enabling Bethany to offer boutique classes and private tuition from her own studio on the Gold Coast.
BMC was the name Bethany created for her school when she was just 10 years old. Bethany’s initials, and also representing the styles of dance she holds great passion for, Ballet, Modern and Contemporary.
